weekly workouts | january 7

This week’s highlights…

Monday night I joined friends Sonia and Sarah for a run around the Ford-Franklin bridge loop plus another mile or so out and back. Maneuvering icy sidewalks, we kept a sub-nine pace, and, as always, talked nonstop. Love having these weekly runs with these lovely ladies!

On Tuesday, after tromping up and down the stairs three times and fiddling with the DVD player for at least 10 minutes – it didn’t work, so I watched Eat Pray Love on my laptop – I hopped on the trainer for Frayed Laces’ week six of #trainertuesdays.

Not one, but TWO sessions on the dreadmill this week. During Thursday’s run – it was pouring, in January, in Minnesota – Nick and I did intervals while he explained how to play racquetball (I still don’t fully understand it). And, before a quick swim, I slogged through a quick three miler again Sunday morning after dropping Nick off at the airport. Lucky bum is working in Florida most of the week :)

On Saturday morning, we hammered out some threshold training at Urban Tri. Nothing like holding your heart rate at 85 percent for about an hour. My legs were toast by the end. The gluten-free pancakes and bacon sure hit the spot afterward! Thanks for another great morning, Urban Tri!

Weekly stats: I can’t believe I didn’t ski this week, but it’s tough when it’s dark after work, and trails that are lit are a haul from our house. And, in big toe news, it still hurts… but, despite modifying every chatarunga and every crescent lunge during practice this week, I can’t give up my mat. I need that yoga bliss!

Swim 1,600 yards, 32 minutes
Bike 37.74 miles, 2:19:39
Run 11.92 miles, 1:45:57
Yoga two classes (one at home), 80 minutes

This week: More of the same this week! And, more running, including squeezing in a long(er) run this weekend.

What’s on your workout calendar this week?

“Working” in Florida, Riiiiiiiiiight….. And it’s ok you didn’t ski. My favorite ski race in the whole world was canceled last Saturday due to the rain. In January. In Minnesota. WTH!?!? Good for you for getting in your workouts and enjoying them all the same! FYI…Key’s now has a new gluten free menu and the pancakes are awesome. :)

    • Of course he rubbed it in that he was running in 80-degree temps ;)

I KNOW. This weather is ridiculous. What other ski races are on your calendar?

Oooo… I will definitely check out Key’s. Thanks for the tip!

Great weeks of workouts Erin! I hope your toe starts feeling better! My workouts this week will hopefully include a run everyday. Slow and steady right now, but would like to attempt some “faster” running soon before I finalize a marathon plan!

    • Thank you, Carrisa! Still modifying for the big toe :)

Running every day = awesome! Do you develop your own marathon plan or follow one?

In the past I’ve followed one (Runner’s World Smart Coach) with a few modifications. This time I’m thinking of pulling a those plans together, plus add in the “workouts” that I’ve discovered in the process. I’m always learning :)
